The effects of Chronic Stress and Trauma on the mental and physical well-being of dogs cannot be underestimated.

The realisation that, as with humans, each dog is an individual and will have their own level of resilience to events that may trigger trauma is critical to our understanding.

Trauma needs to be understood as a personal response to an event, not the event itself, as in many cases the ‘event’ will be insignificant to many but devasting to one or a few individuals.

Understanding this and the effects of stress on susceptibility to trauma, will allow trainers and behaviourists to guide owners and work compassionately with both them and the dogs that they are caring for.

The webinar looks at stress [and anxiety] and its effect on trauma responses and antecedents, displacement behaviour is discussed from the dogs’ perspective, along with perceptions of their own safety.

Understanding of causes, veterinary issues and emotional wellbeing are explored further through a ‘real life’ case study which highlights further the individual aspects to trauma.

The webinar covers the following topics:
  • Defining stress and trauma•Chronic stress and chronic anxiety
  • Emotions
  • Trauma and behaviour - Fear
  • Trauma and behaviour – Displacement Behaviour?
  • SAFETY - the dogs' perspective
  • Destiny – Case Study
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Time and progress - is recovery a linear process?
